Poetry Competition 2021

copyright 2021 belongs to the authors

We were delighted to receive around 50 entries for the 2021 poetry competition.  A good time was had by all the judging panel.

Lucy Chambers, Chiswick Book Festival Children’s Events Coordinator and judge for the CBF Young People’s Poetry Competition said:

"It is a great privilege to be a judge once again for the Blossom Day Poetry Competition.  I loved the interesting imagery children used to describe nature,  cherry blossom, the local area and the potential impact of climate change.  It is wonderful to get an insight into how children view the world through poetry.  Congratulations to the prize-winners and to everyone who entered the competition.”

Susan Lee Kerr, Grove Park poet, and author of the book "The Walk Home" said:

Thank you to all the young poets for your many views of earth and spring. You have a passion for the environment and an impressive concern for our planet. The poems showed close observation, awareness and humour using interesting words, stanzas, rhyme and repetition. Some of them could be raps! May you thrive and flower like the Staveley Road cherry blossom trees.

John Keegan said:

'I really enjoyed the young people's poems - they were imaginative, well written and committed to the future of our planet.'

Many thanks to Sally Malin for organising the competition.
